IFS represents Austria at the European Linked Data Contest

The European Linked Data Contest [1] has been organised with the goal of showcasing the European scene in the area of Linked Data and Semantic Web technologies. The contest awarded prizes for the best projects that make use of Linked Data, either in an open Web sitting (Linked Open Data category) or within organisations (Linked Enterprise Data category). Similarly to the Eurovision contest, finalist projects were selected from each European country and then the winners were selected from these finalists through the vote of an international jury.

The competition attracted 53 submissions from 22 countries. The finalists for Austria, for both categories, were Linked Data applications created within IFS by a group of researchers at the Christian Doppler Laboratory „Software Engineering Integration for Flexible Automation Systems“ (CDL-Flex) [2]. Under the supervision of Dr. Marta Sabou, the team submitted two applications. In the area of Linked Enterprise Data, the team showcased their ongoing work on the AutomationML Analyzer [3], an output of research that explores the use of Semantic Web and Linked Data technologies in the Industrie 4.0 area. In the Linked Open Data category, the team submitted the OGD Apps Observatory [4], which exposes as Linked Data metadata about applications created with Open Data from Stadt Wien. The observatory also provides an appealing visual interface to support the analysis of this metadata.

As of January 2016, the OGD Apps Observatory also features as one of the open data applications on the official open data portal of the Austrian government, data.gv.at [5].

We are pleased that through these submissions work performed at TUWien, and especially at IFS, was put on the map of European Linked Data research.
